Shimano issued a voluntary recall this week affecting certain SLX BR-M7100 brake lever units manufactured between March and July 2024. The issue involves potential lever blade separation under heavy braking.
Which Levers Are Affected
Only SLX BR-M7100 levers with serial numbers beginning with “M7124” through “M7127” fall under this recall. Check the underside of your brake lever body for the stamped serial number. If yours starts with a different prefix, you’re not affected.
What To Do
Stop riding immediately if you have affected levers. Contact your local Shimano dealer or the shop where you purchased the bike. Shimano is providing free replacement levers—no purchase receipt required. Dealers have been instructed to prioritize these replacements.
How To Check
The serial number is stamped on the lever body clamp area. You’ll need to remove the lever from your handlebar to read it clearly, or use a flashlight and mirror while the lever is installed.
